OPINION: Ruger Is Good, But BNXN Is Better — Do You Agree?

When Ruger took to Twitter last week to clear the air about him versus Ruger, the point he raised was fair.

According to him, the reason he is a much better artist than Buju is because he does everything solo. That’s a fair point, to be honest. If you lock the two guys alone in different rooms, Ruger is much more likely to come out with a hit than Ruger. At least, based on what they’ve done so far.

The problem with that logic is that, this is the real world. And in the real world, nobody is going to ever lock them in rooms alone. So there’s no way an argument of who can do it solo will ever be valid.

Take a look at it this way. It’s Ruger’s choice to do his stuff alone and it’s Bnxn’s choice to work with other people so much. And to be fair, they’ve both done well in their choices. The only question here should be, if the roles were reversed, could Ruger do what BNXN has done and vice versa

Bnxn’s career did not start today, of course, and he already has solid solo hits. Talk of “Lenu” (before Burna Boy jumped on it), “So Lovely,” “Outside,” and “Never Stopped.” You can say he doesn’t have a huge song like “Bounce,” but that’s not true because “Outside” is quite the hit too. Even though he prefers doing it with people, his solo catalog is not bad either.

But does Ruger measure up to BNXN in features? Can he ever? The only feature Ruger did was “One Shirt” with Rema and D’Prince and it wasn’t really much of a hit. Put that alongside all of Bnxn’s mind-blowing collaborations and Ruger is found wanting.

BNXN can do what Ruger does and he has done it. But there is still no proof that Ruger can have so much chemistry with some of the best artists of our generation like Wizkid, Wandecoal, Timaya, and 2Baba.

To say Ruger is better than Bnxn because he does it solo is like saying Kizz Daniel deserved the Next Rated over Lil Kesh and Reekado Banks in 2015 because they did features a lot. That’s simply not true.

Until Ruger does a song with WizKid, Burna Boy, gives a rapper a hit, and flows on a drill track, he’s never going to be any match for Buju!

Well, what do you think?
